THE CASTLE 2

THE CASTLE 2

14 - 28 October, 2023

THE CASTLE² is a new work inspired by The Castle, a popular movie made by Working Dog productions, which was partly filmed in Bonnie Doon. The local connection has inspired Will Twycross, local doctor and community man, to pen this sequel from his imagination based on ‘what happened after’. The story is quirky, which is unsurprising and very high energy. Excitingly this is brand new work written for and staged at the Mansfield Performing Arts Centre. With a cast of over 50 performers, a live band and special effects MMuDS is proud to present this show that showcases the talent, creativity and vibe, oh yes the vibe, of our amazing community!

Involving over fifty people on stage, including twenty children, it has been written as an original MMuDS musical, set in Bonnie Doon. The children, directed by Bernadette Gifford, will be acting as the next generation of the Kerrigan family, whose parents have moved to Bonnie Doon, and will run into some of the same adventures and legal obstacles, as they move up to Maintongoon Road, where they build a new house under the powerlines. The new “sequel” The Castle² story line has been written by Will Twycross, who is also directing the show. Our Producer is Karen Pirie, who has won multiple awards for Black Adder Goes Forth and Black Adder the Elizabethan One, The Elephant Man, and Seussical, and recently directed Meredith Newman, our Deputy Director, in Shirley Valentine. The band is being led by Rolf Koren and includes some of Mansfield’s most accomplished musicians, who will give the story line a great musical edge. The set, designed by Ian Keys, includes a number of surprises, which we know the audiences will enjoy. Jenny Gibney has designed some beautiful cartoon-style backdrops that will bring the set to life. A new set of digitally controlled LED lights will also enhance this, and future shows at the Performing Arts Centre, and Nicole Sanders and Milton Taylor have produced projections that will give the show a real local flavour. The show has had very good early bookings, with a number of the weekend performances full or almost full, so we would love you to get in early to get a good seat. This is MMuDS 40th Anniversary, and we are hoping to bring you a really great show!
