Harry Nix Music Encouragement Award

The Harry Nix Music Encouragement Award is an award that acknowledges a consistent and high level of involvement, effort and enthusiasm within the MAD Orchestra and/or MAD KIDS Band and/or MAD Strings Ensemble.
It may be awarded to a young musician who has shown the most improvement musically on their instrument or has achieved a special musical event such as a large solo, show or composition.
There may be more than one person awarded at a time but the award may not be given every year.
The applicant must be a past or present MMuDS member or involved in their school music program, where applicable.

Nomination for the Harry Nix Music Encouragement Award is to be made to the MMuDS Committee by the MAD Orchestra Musical Director.

Recipients

2015

Mitch Clarke

2016

John Griffin, Mahalia Shelton

2017  Robert Squires

The Harry Nix award has been awarded this year to Robert Squires, a young man who has been hard at work leading community music for a number of years. Whilst this has mainly been as the musical director of the Benalla Rose City Band, Robert began his conducting training under the wing of Monica Sketcher. He began very nervously on the podium, but grew in confidence. Notably, Robert has worked continually on upskilling himself by attending numerous conductors courses led by some of the country’s best conductors.
